RICHARD A. MOORE, 0F BEOOKINGS, OREGON.
COMBINATION TOOL.
Application filed May 11,
T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that l, RICHARD A. Moons, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brookings, in the county of Curry and State of Oregon, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination Tools; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such 'aswill enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. i
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in combination tools and has for its primary object the provision of means whereby several types of wrenches may be provided for use on round, rectangular, and octagon-shaped stocks, and when not employed as a wrench may be adjusted to form a hammer having means for removing nails and the like and also for removing dirt and grease from machinery. 7
Another object of this invention is the provision of means whereby the jaws may be easily and quickly adjusted in relation to each other and when adjusted to an object will be locked against accidental movement relative to each other.
A further object of this invention is the provision of means whereby the device may be used as a socket wrench and also a screwdriver.
A still further object of this invention is the provision of a tool of the above stated character which will be simple, durable, and efficient, and which may be manufactured and sold at a comparatively low cost.
With these and other objects in view as will become more apparent as the description proceeds, the invention consists in cer tain novel features of constructiong. combination, and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
For a complete understanding of my invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of a combination tool constructed in accordance with my invention,
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional'view illustrating the same,
Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view illustrating the means of slidably securing the sections of the handle together,

tachment to the jaws, and
F i o is a detail sectional view illustrating a cotter-key remover attached to the.
, this bolt is adapted to have threaded thereon a wing-nut 7 for the purpose of preventing separation of the sections 2 and 3 and which will permit adjustment of said sections relative to each other in an endwis'e direction by releasing the tension of'thewing-nut 7 against the. section 2. The section 2 also has formed therein a groove 8 which c0mmunicates with the slot at one end and is adapted to receive a dovetailed lug 9 secured to the section 3 for the purpose of preventing said sections from moving out of parallel relation during their adjustment relative to each other. One end of the section 2 is provided with a socket 10 to receive a stud 11 on the section 3 to further aid in preventing relative separation of the sections 2 and 3. When it is desired to adjust the sections 2 and 3 endwise in respect to each other, the wing-nut 7 is turned on the bolt 6 to disengage the section 3 and one end of the grooveS isslightly enlarged to permit the lug 9 to move out of said groove consequently permitting a partial separation of the sections 2 and 3 and sufficient to permit disengagement of the stud 11 from the socket l0 and with the stud 11 disen gagcd from the socket, the sections 2 and 3 may be then adjusted endwise with respect to each other.
Jaws 12 and 13 are formed integrally with corresponding ends of the sections 2 and 3 and have their opposing faces serrated as illustrated at 14 to facilitate the gripping of a nut or the like and also pipes and other round articles. The ends of the jaws 12 and 13 have fiat faces so that when said jaws are moved in close relation or against each other, an efficient striking face is provided permitting the tool to be used as a hammer. The jaw 12 projects beyond one side of the handle for the purpose of form ing a claw 15 adapted to be used in removing or extracting nails and" the likeand also may be employed for removing dirt and nuts that are countersunk;
The section 3= is provided with a screwthre'aded opening 21: in its end to receive a screw threaded memberQQ to which a' hook 24- is secured. The hook 2 1: is especially designed for removing cotter-keys and the likefro'm bolts and other parts crimechi-ner-y.
The handle l is provided with graduations to'facilitate the adjustment of the jaws to an object and also permit the device to be "used formeasuring.
While I haveshown' and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it"
will be understood that minor changesin construction, combination, and arrangement of parts maybe made Without departing from the spirit andscope of the invention as claimed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is 1. A tool comprising a handle including a pair of parallel sections and one of said sections having a slot and a groove communioatingwith the latter, a bolt carried byuthe other section and extending through the slot, a member threaded to'said bolt,.a
lug formed on: the last-named section and received by the groove, and jaws carried by said section; a i 2. A tool comprising. a handle including a pair of parallel sections and one of said sections having a slot and a dovetailed groovecommunic'ating with the latter, a-bolt carried by the other section and: extending,
through the slot, a member threaded to s'ai'd bolt, a lug formed on the last-namedsectionfi and having a dovetailed head fitting in said groove, andjaws carried by said sections.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
