Abstract
167,712. Barr, W. Nov. 11, 1920. Stoppering.-In a machine for applying screw stoppers to bottles, the spindle 1, which carries at its lower end a throat 7 to engage the stopper, has a driving-pin 11 engaged by a spring- pressed pivoted latch member 10 in the driving-pulley 8, which is mounted in a stationary sleeve 9 secured to the frame 2. The tension of the spring 12 is regulated by the screw 13 so that the clutch just slips when the stopper is screwed home. A stud 14 limits the movement of the member 10. The bottle is supported on a rubber seat 4a carried by a vertical pillar 4 which can be moved vertically in a guide 5 by means of a treadle 6. The internal conical surface of the throat 7 is preferably corrugated or serrated.
