Abstract
129,923. Hess, M. Jan. 3, 1919. Clamps.-Apparatus for making boxes from the blanks shown in Fig. 3 comprises standards 2, Fig. 1, in which is pivoted a lever 7 carrying a cam 8, the curved face of which engages a recess in a block 9 slidably mounted between cheeks 10 on a presser block 4. The block 4 is pivotally mounted at 19 in the standards and is provided with a rubber or other resilient pad 4a. The blank, after being folded upon the lines 15 and placed beneath fingers 16 on a forming pedestal 6, has the flaps on the side members folded along lines 17 and coated with adhesive. The central flap is then folded along line 18 on to the side flaps, and the box structure removed from the pedestal 6 and placed beneath fingers on the one below the presser block 4, which is forced, by pulling down the lever 7, into engagement with the folded box-end and locked thereto by reason of the engagement of the cam with the block 9. Upon raising the lever 7, springs 12 raise the presser block, and the other end of the box is then similarly treated.
