167,282. Kelly, J. R. Armstrong-. May 4, 1920. Shovels.-The blade of a shovel is constructed with a pointed projection 4 at the centre of the shovelling edge. The projection is either formed integral with the bladle or is secured by riveting as shown in Figs. 3, 5, and 8. In Fig. 3, the projection has arms 9, 10 which are folded over the shovel, the projection then being secured by a rivet 14 through the blade. In a modification, Fig. 5, the projection is formed by two similarlyshaped pieces fitting above and under the blade respectively and secured by rivets 19; the edges of the projection may then be welded together. In this form the two parts may be welded together or constructed in one piece before attaching to the shovel. In a somewhat similar form the two pieces are secured to each other and to the blade by rivets and one of the pieces extends further over the blade than the other. In the - form shown in Fig. 8, the projection is formed from a triangular sheet of metal which is folded as shown on the blade. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 13438/00, 29519/06, and 121,966.
