Abstract
171,039. Hatton, H., (trading as Hatton Bros.). Dec. 29, 1920. Strengthened handles. -A handle for shovels or the like of the type having front and/or rear metal strengthening- strips extending into the socket of the shovel &c. has a fixing rivet, pin or screw extending through the socket, the handle, and the strengthening- strip. As shown in Fig. 2, the strip 2, riveted to the rear side of the handle 1, extends down into the socket 3, and the fixing-rivet 5 is passed through the strip 2 and handle, and through the upper front end of the socket. The socket may be of the same height at the rear, and the rivet 5 passed through its front and rear sides. As shown in Fig. 7, the strip 2<a> extends over the upper end of the handle and down its front and rear sides into the socket 3, to which it and the handle are fixed by the rivet 5.
