Abstract

Auxiliary protective or safety devices; brushholders.-A body of high magnetic conductivity is placed in close proximity to the point of contact of the brush and commutator of a dynamoelectric machine, to divert magnetic flux from this point, and is preferably shaped so as to shield the point from draughts. Fig. 1 shows the brush-holder 7 and a rectangular magnetic conducting element 9 surrounding it. The end members 12, 13 of the element 9 are arranged to lie in the field of stray magnetic flux F and are shaped to divert air currents. Fig. 5 shows a modified form in which the magnetic conducting member 9' is incorporated in the brush-holder 7<1>. A V-shaped member 16 of insulating-material is secured to the arm of the brush-holder to increase the creepage distance.
