Abstract
166,878. Metropolitan-Vickers Electrical Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Goodwin, July 19, 1920, [Convention date]. Systems for alternating-current motors only.- Synchronous motors are started on reduced voltage and automatically switched over to full voltage by a device responsive to the change in the current traversing the field circuit when synchronous speed is attained. In the arrangement shown a synchronous motor 2, at starting, takes current from an auto-transformer 5 through a switch 6 having an actuating coil energized in the lower pcsition of a relay 11. The starting follows from the temporary closure of a pushbutton 17, The relay 11 is controlled by a device 12 which has a coil 13 in series with the field magnet 3, and its exciter 14, and other opposing coils 15, 16 energized inductively by 13. The inductive energization becomes ineffective when synchronous speed is attained, and the device responds directly to the exciter current in 13. The result is to energize the coil of the relay 11, which raises its contact to cut out the starting switch magnet 7 and bring in the running switch magnet 9.
