Abstract

166,303. Wilson, H. G. Feb. 13, 1920. Springs, arrangement of.-Longitudinal shocks between the body and underframe of a railway or road vehicle are absorbed by springs, or elastic buffers E mounted on a spindle C secured to the underframe and bearing against a holder D secured to the body, the ends of the springs &c. being mounted in recesses H on the holder D and on adjusting nuts F. The spindle is secured in buttresses B by nuts G. The positions of the spindle C and holder D may be reversed, and the spindle may extend the whole length of the vehicle to carry a series of shock absorbers. The springs may be of spiral form as shown in Fig 1, or springs as shown in Fig. 2. In the case of heavy vehicles, ball bearings I may be interposed between the holder D and underframe. A.
