Abstract
165,738. American Coke & Chemical Co., (Assignees of Roberts, A.). Sept. 8, 1919, [Convention date]. Gaseous-fuel furnaces; cleaning.-The gas supply to the burners of a coke oven is controlled by a valve, which can be operated to admit air to the gas passages for the purpose of burning out the carbon deposits. The supply connections for a heating-wall are shown diagrammatically in Fig. 4, and comprise four pipes 80, 80<a>, 81, 81<a>, connected in pairs, and in communication with a main 91 through a reversing-valve 86. The oven has burners at both top and bottom of the heating-wall, and each pair of pipes supplies the bottom burners 50 of alternate sections and the top burners 52 of the intermediate sections of the heating-wall. For admitting air when desired to the idle burners an air pipe 92 leads to the reversing-valve, and is so arranged that when the connection 84 or 85 is cut off from the gas main 91 it is put into communication with the air pipe 92. Valves are provided in various positions for controlling the gas and air supplies. Specifications 1570/15 and 150,983. are referred to.
