Abstract
165,512. British Thomson - - Houston. Co., Ltd. (General Electric Co.). March 23, 1920. R÷ntgen-ray and like apparatus.-A tube 4<1> and a transformer 4 are immersed in insulating liquid such as oil in an earthed conducting tank, the anode being cooled by a liquid, such as water, and connected electrically with the tank. The tank, of iron or other metal, is formed in two parts, of which the larger 2 contains the transformer, and the smaller 3, of cylindrical shape, contains the tube. The anode 13 is joined to the cover 18 of the tank by a copper tube 16, to which water is admitted through an internal pipe 19. The cathode end of the tube 4<1> is fitted with an. adjustable resistance 22, and with metal pins 25 engaging with sockets connected with the secondary windings of the transformer. One end of the high potential secondary is connected through an ammeter with the tank, and the other end forms a common connection with a low potential secondary supplying current to the cathode, Chambers 30, 31 with capillary tubes 33 are provided to allow expansion of the oil. A window 34 is mounted on the upper part of the tank, and a cooling coil 35 is mounted around the lower part.
