Block tyres; non-metallic elastic-bodies and cores.-A tyre consists of rubber or other blocks 3 with abutting or connected base portions 5 and recesses 4 in which are fitted metal thimbles 6 adapted to support the sides of the recesses as shown. The thimbles may be formed of sheet metal and may be of skeleton structure such as is shown in Fig. 4, or may be formed of coiled wire. Fabric caps may be fitted over the thimbles to protect the tyre. For wide tyres, more than one row of blocks may be used. In one such arrangement a series of tyre sections, each formed with a number of tread blocks, are mounted obliquely on the wheel rim. In the modification shown in Figs. 13 and 14, the thimbles 6 are stamped out of the rim 11, the side-flanges 2 being formed in sections separately secured by the bolts 10.
