A detachable non-skid device comprises a series of metal units each formed with transverse bars 12, 13, to engage the tread of the tyre 14, terminating in pairs 16, 17-18, 19 of radial arms to straddle the tyre and rim and connected by side-links 20, 24, the arms on one or both sides being connected by coupling- members such as chains 23, 25 fitted with releasable catches 26.
