Abstract

Regulating.-Relates to control means in hydraulic turbines for closing the turbine inlet at excessive speeds, and consists in providing a clutch between the gear driving the closing-device and the closing-device itself which unclutches just 'before closure to prevent damage due to momentum. In Fig. 1 is shown a centrifugal governor q driven from the driving shaft b which at a predetermined speed throws a clutch s into action so that the shaft f is rotated and drives a shaft k on which is a worm l gearing with a sector m which closes the guide-vanes of the turbine. Just before the guide-vanes close, a clutch o isdisengaged by means of a link n attached to the sector m. In place of the clutch o a cord fixed on the shaft f may be wound round a disc on the shaft k of such length that it disengages from a hook on the disc just before the guide-vanes are closed. A hand-wheel on the shaft k is used to re-open the turbine guide-vanes.
