Abstract

196,918. Long, H. April 26, 1922, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Act]. Self-driving machines and plant.-A selfdiiving motor comprises three or more watertanks A holding floats B arranged to raise weights C, each of which is suspended from a chain D running over a chain-wheel E adapted to drive a shaft F by a ratchet device. The shaft F drives multiplying-gearing, from one shaft of which is driven an air-compressor L for pumping air into the floats and thus lightening them. When a float has raised its weight C to the uppermost position, a valve P is automatically opened, thus allowing air to escape and admitting water through a port Q. When a weight C reaches its lowest position, it opens a compressed-air inletvalve 0. The speed of the shaft F is controlled by a pendulum or other escapement H, G.
