Abstract
165,000. Nagel, T. Sept. 20, 1920. Hooks, automatic-release.-A towhook for a steam tug is automatically released by an excessively inclined tow line, and is provided with alternative manual releasing-means. The towhook comprises a framework in which are located a holding-roller f, two pivotal-pawls g, and a sliding hookholder h which engages at its rear end with the pawls g and is provided with upper and lower abutments i which slide in slots in the framework. A hook l having an inclined rear face m is pivoted in the holder h so that its turning is governed by a sleeve n.. The sleeve n is connected by an adjustable link p to a lever q which bears against an abutment r when the tow hook is excessively inclined. The sleeve is thus displaced, the pawls g swung outwards liberating the holder h which slides clear of the sleeve n and allows the hook l to turn as indicated in Fig. 1. A lever u pivoted at t is connected to the link p by means of a rod v, for manually operating the tow-hook, and a spring x is provided to prevent the unintentioned operation of this lever.
