Abstract

Calcium sulphate.-Consists in the manufacture of plaster of paris in a continuous manner by feeding powdered gypsum or old plaster moulds through a closed vessel under pressure, in the presence of dry steam at 380-420‹ F., generated only from the raw material itself. Using the apparatus shown in Fig. 1, the dry, powdered, or granular material is fed continuously into the retort A through the rotary valve C and is conveyed to the discharge valve C<1> by screw D. Fig. 2 indicates another form of retort, which is raised to the necessary temperature by means of steam under pressure. Steam entering at H passes through the closed system of pipes G which, being mounted on the circular plates g provided with trunnions, can be rotated. The material is conveyed through the retort by means of the vanes d arranged spirally round the steam-pipes. Specifications 5853/04 and 20789/12 are referred to.
