Abstract
268,767. Andreas, A. March 31, 1926, [Convention date]. Addition to 263,166. Shaft kilns.-In the burning of cement in a shaft kiln as described in the Parent Specification, air at a relatively high pressure, e.g. 200 mm. of water or over is introduced into and below the clinkering-zone b. As shown the air is supplied under control at three levels, the supplies into and immediately below the clinkering-zone being delivered through annular conduits e. The air introduced directly into the clinkering-zone may be preheated, and that supplied at a lower level may be moistened. The kiln shaft consists of a metal casing with a fire-brick lining, and the discharging devices usually situated at the lower end of the cylindrical portion of the kiln may be omitted. The material may be supplied in a non-briquetted condition, either as powder, or in small lumps made by mixing the material with water, or the charge may be prepared by the wet process and subjected to a preliminary drying- operation e.g. by the waste gases from rotary kilns. The fuel may be ground up with the raw material. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) the invention is appliable to the burning of lime and hydraulic lime. These applications are not mentioned in the Specification as accepted.
