Abstract

Dynamos and motors combined for transmitting power; regulation, automatic.-In a dynamo and motor installation for transmitting power in ship propulsion, an alternating-current generator 2 driven by a turbine 1 has its field circuit 6 automatically regulated by a small motor 9, which turns in response to variations of current in the conductors 3 connecting the generator 2 with a driving motor 4. The turning movement acts through gearing upon a spindle 20 restrained by a spring 10 and coupled to a rheostat arm 12. Alternatively, the automatic regulation may take effect upon the field of an exciter machine. The rheostat can be uncoupled from the shaft 20 and set on any stud by a hand-wheel 14.
