Pivoted-sliding windows. - In a window having two or more sashes, each sash is hinged to a transverse bar 18 at its upper edge, the bars having down-turned ends sliding in channel linings in the frame, and the sashes are connected to the frame by links 23 pivoted to blocks fixed to the frame, and to the sashes. The sashes may be opened outwardly and reversed for cleaning. The meeting edges of the sides and bottom of sashes and frame are shaped and bevelled as shown in Fig. 3. The top or hinged edges are shaped as shown in Fig. 4. The outer members of the channel forming the sash are cut away to provide sufficient clearance for the angular members of the bar 18 when the sash is turned on its hinges. The hinge member of the lower sash serves to lock the upper sash when closed as shown in Fig. 4. Springs 20 secured to the ends of the bar frictionally engage the lining and hold the sash in any position; additional adjusting-screws 22 are provided for the springs.
