Abstract

162,726. Ashworth, R. Jan. 2, 1920. Bricks, special shapes of.-Solid or hollow blocks are formed with undercut grooves b at their ends and grooves e on their top and bottom faces running into the end grooves to receive grouting which binds the block together. The grooves e may be stopped off at the centre by a stop g and to prevent air-lock in the grouting, cross passages k are provided connecting the channels with the outside surfaces of the block. In blocks with hollows f a double undercut hollow i is provided midway of its length and the facial grooves e are stopped off by a stop g. These blocks are arranged to break joint, whereas the solid blocks do not. These blocks may also be provided with undercut grooves n in their side faces to take partition walls, and may be provided with wooden blocks o to which picture rails or dadoes can be nailed. The solid blocks may also be provided with recessed upper and lower faces j stopped off by stops p, Fig. 7, and when built to form a hollow wall the blocks are tied by metal ties r fitting in recesses g on the inside portions of the top surface.
