Abstract

664,514. Walls; building blocks. ROUZAUD, P. J. Feb. 25, 1949, No. 5193/ 49. Classes 20(iv) and 87(i) A wall, comprising superposed courses of hollow prefabricated blocks assembled dry and incorporating spaced vertical frame members or chain bonds disposed in selected aligned cavities of the blocks, is provided at selected levels with horizontal courses of chain bond blocks 1 having mating vertical semi-cavities 2 at their ends to form complete cavities into which concrete is poured after assembly to form horizontal chain bonds, and recesss 4, 6 in their top and/or bottom surfaces to receive a metal reinforcing rod or rods 5 and permit horizontal flow of the concrete to form a continuous bond surrounding the rods, horizontal screens being provided to support this concrete and ensure that cavities in the courses intermediate the selected courses of chain bond blocks remain unfilled. The blocks shown have a complete central cavity 3, and shallow recesses 7 at the top and bottom of the side walls to receive fastenings for ceiling supports &c. The horizontal screens may consist of plates laid in and closing the mouths of the vertical cavities of the blocks underlying each horizontal chain bond. Fig. 8 shows a wall incorporating blocks 41 as described above, end blocks 31 with a semicavity at one end only, a double block 51, and corner block 61, with horizontal reinforcement 5 and vertical reinforcement 8. The chain bond blocks may constitute a single course, or several superimposed courses. When there are two such superimposed courses, one course is inverted so that the faces of the blocks having the grooves 6 are in contact. The blocks in each course are staggered so that the ends of the blocks in one course are in line with the middle of the cavity 3 of the blocks in the adjacent course. The courses intermediate the horiontal chain bonds may be composed of hollow blocks of the kind described in Specification 621,027, and the connection between courses and between the blocks of one course may be effected in the manner described in that Specification.
