[Classes 20(iv) and 87(i)] A wall is formed of storey-high preformed blocks with flat or rounded inner and outer faces, each having at least one longitudinal enclosed passage, the sole tie means comprising joggles whose interconnected ribs project into the passage ends; the joggles are formed separately, or integrally with lintel or base blocks. Fig. 1 shows hollow storey-high blocks 15 each divided by a wall 42 into two compartments, the ends of the inner 14 of which are engaged by ribs 13 on the H-shaped connectors 12, the lower row of connectors being cemented into a chase 11 in the prefabricated base blocks 10, while the upper row has cast around it a lintel course 18 with a further chase if required for the lower connectors of the upper storey. The connectors may be of concrete with stamped reinforcements. Sealing material is in serted at 16, and re-inforcing rods or tubes may be passed through some of the holes in the ribs to extend throughout or partly into the passages 14, concrete being poured into the latter and into the corresponding outer passages. In Fig. 5 (not shown) base and. lintel blocks are formed integrally with projecting ribs, or the lower row of ribs may be dispensed with, the wall blocks being inserted directly into a chase in the base blocks. Wall blocks of window or door height may be erected at either side of openings, their tops being bridged by a lintel; beneath windows they may be laid horizontally. Other cross-sectional ferms of wall block are described; e.g. the outer compartments may be identical with the inner compartments 14, additional channels 16 being provided at their ends; the wall 42 may be omitted, or in narrow walls may itself form the outer face, the second compartments being omitted.
