Steam - engine and like indicators pressure guages, applications of. - Relates to power indicators for internal-combustion engines by which the pressure is indicated at any point of the stroke, and consists in a U-tube 5 filled with oil and containing two sleeves 12, 13 with ports 12<d>, 13<d> and bearing-surfaces 12<a>, 13<a>. A shaft 13b connected to the sleeve 13 is oscillated or revolved from any part of the engine, and to a shaft 12b attached to the sleeve 12 is fixed a disc 15 calibrated in terms of the piston stroke and retained in set position by a. spring pointer 14. When the ports 12<d>, 13<d> are in register, communication is open through a pipe 6 leading from the engine cylinder, to a Bourdon gauge 10 and after a few revolutions the accumulated pressure in the tube equals the pressure in the cylinder at the point of the stroke shown on the disc 15. By taking the pressures throughout a cycle a power-curve can be constructed.
