Combined open fire-places and cooking-stoves; ash-pans. -In a combined sitting - room and cooking stove, of the type having a low open fire - place, capable of being closed, and a superposed oven, an ashp a n is provided having a channel beneath it in which air for combustion is heated. The stove shown comprises doors for closing the front of the firespace, backwardlysloping fire-bars 4, a boiler 6 with forwardly - extending water-legs 7, a superimposed oven 8, and an horizontally-sliding hood 11 with a plate 12, which, when drawn forwardly, allows the gases to pass through it to the flues 9 around the oven. The ash-pan 13 rests on feet,. or on brackets on each side, so as to form a. channel beneath it for air passing to the fire; baffle-plates 15 cause the air to take a circuitouscourse.
