Abstract

160,061. Gardiner, W. J. Jan. 31, 1920. Disc apparatus.-A portable tool for grinding or facing valve faces or like inaccessible parts of machinery comprises a base-plate 1, Fig. 1, which is detachably secured to the end of the valve chest and carries a compound slide 2, 3 upon the upper part 3 of which is a carrier or bearing 4. A tool-carrier 5 is slidably mounted in the bearing 4; it is vertically adjusted by means of a screw 17 engaging with a boss 18, and carries at its other end 6 a spindle or socket 7 adapted at one end to hold a grinder 8 or other facing- tool, and at the other end to be connected with suitable driving-devices, such as a flexible shaft 9. driven by electric or other power. To allow the grinder to be set at an angle to the tool-bar 5. the end of the latter may be provided with a socket head 32, Fig. 3, provided with serrated teeth 33, engaging with teeth 34 on the tool-carrier. The socket is locked in any required position bv the bolt 35. Specification 4429/06 is referred to.
