Abstract

Axles and axle structures, - Relates to the type of wheel - driving and suspension means in which a sleeve such as 2, surrounding a driving - axle 1, is secured in the fixed axle casing and supports the wheel through the medium of ball or roller bearings 3, and in which the driving-axle is connected to the wheel hub by a conical connecting-member such as 5a keyed on the conical end of the driving-axle. In the present construction the disc 5, which forms the outer portion' of the wheel hub, also carries the conical boss 5a for connecting to the driving-axle. The inner portion of the wheel hub is formed by a flange 7<a> projecting from the casing enclosing the bearings, which is mounted loosely on the sleeve 2. The brake drum 8 may be secured in position by the securing bolts 6 for assembling the wheel. Packing 9, 10 prevents escape of oil from the bearings.
