Abstract

159,522. Marlow, J. H. July 23,1919. Pottery and like kilns.-In a gas-fired tunnel or other kiln or oven for the manufacture of tiles, pottery, &c. heating-gases are delivered to the kiln chamber through perforated conduits sunplied from separate combustion chambers, and through perforations in the walls or archway of the kiln. As shown in connection with a tunnel kiln having two lines of rails for goods-carrying trucks, three perforated conduits a, b, c are employed, two running along the sides of the kiln and the third along the middle, and beneath these conduits are combustion chambers x, x<1> supplied with gas from a producer. Leading from the side conduits are flues k formed of tubular sections or by perforated plates n spaced from the main walls of the tunnel by the partition walls between the flues. A partition l may be provided to separate the flues k at one side of the tunnel from those at the other. The products of ccmbustion are exhausted from the kiln by a fan through a jacket flue at the inlet end filled for part of its length with horizontally-arranged pipes.
