158,436. Zweigbergk, T. Nov. 28, 1919. Motors, supporting; electric tramcars, railway motor cars, and locomotives.-In an electric traction motor drive embodying an idler wheel between the motor pinion and the driven shaft, the motor end plate, which contains the motor shaft bearing, has an extension forming a bracket carrying the idler so that the motor with its pinion and the idler form a complete unit. In the form shown, the motor has the usual bearing in the running axle D, which it drives at each end from a pinion T through ar. idler S gearing with a spur-wheel U outside the road wheel. The motor end plate has a flat circular seating F from which projects a tubular part G including the motor shaft bearing H and cut away at one side to clear the road wheel. An outer flat part J of the part G carries a forked bracket K formed bv inner and outer circular plates N, P connected by a cylindrical wall. The plate N is formed as an eccentric thickened part of the end plate extension J and the two plates N, P are bored to receive the spindle Q of the idler S, the spindle being held against rotation by a key R sunk in its end and in the plate P. The plate P is cut away at its lower end so that the pinion T may be put on the motor shaft when this is in place. The split gear-case E is supported by a groove 0 turned in the plate N and by a bracket V projecting from the motor end plate.
