Abstract

158,029. Anspach, P. A. L. Oct. 14, 1919. Screw - propeller blades, more particularly for aeroplanes, are made of special cross-section to facilitate their movement through the fluid. The curve ab of the blade section constitutes the main impact surface and is made slightly convex. The leading edge of the blade is formed of a curve fg of small angle of incidence and a curve ag of large angle of incidence. The air displaced by the surface ab reacts on the surface bcd, which is at first slightly convex, and then concave towards the edge d of the blade. A convex curve fe is provided at the rear face of the leading edge, followed by a curve ed, which is mainly convex but has a slightly concave portion adjacent to the edge d. The blade near the axis of rotation is practically symmetrical on both sides, but becomes less symmetrical and thinner towards the tip. The part cd of the impact surface is tangential at d to the general direction of motion of the section.
