Abstract

157,271. Zeppelin-Werke Ges., and Rohrbach, A. Oct. 27, 1919, [Convention date]. Planes, connecting together and to machine.- The stays 7 which connect the planes to the body of the machine are put under a preliminary tension so that, when the machine is on the ground, the planes are held in the positions shown at 1, 3 and the plane spars are compressed on their lower surfaces, but during flight the lifting forces counteract the effect of the tension in the stays 7 and the planes take the positions 2, 4 in which the compression of the lower surfaces of the spars is reduced or changed to tension. The upper plane may be connected to the fuselage 8 by supports 6. The plane 4 of a monoplane, Fig. 2, is stayed by cables 14, and by struts 12 which are trussed at each side of the fuselage 11 by crossed cables. Planes, construction of; propelling; tanks, arrangement of.-The motor and fuel tank may be carried within the plane, the interior of which may be made accessible.
