Propelling; land-wheels; planes, construction and arrangement of.- A power unit for aircraft comprises a propeller and a motor supported in a frame carrying one or more landing-wheels at its lower part and detachably connected to the aircraft. Figs. 1 and 2 show the application of a biplane, in which an engine 2, mounted in a streamline casing 3 and coupled to a propeller 1. is supported in diamond frames 4, 5 detachably connected at 6, 7 to the upper plane and siding at 10, 11 in sleeves 12, 13 on the lower plane, a land-wheel 18 being carried by additional members 14. 19, 20. A similar unit is provided at the opposite side of the fuselage, and the fuselage is formed with a recess to receive a landwheel 24 in advance of the wheels 18. The wheels 18 enter gaps 21 in the lower wings and are covered b a fairing 22. The power units are arranged at the hinged division of the folding wings, the gaps 21 being, partly in the fixed portion of the lower wings and partly in the hinged portion, and the sleeves 12, 13 being suitably divided, so that one half of each sleeve opens with the folding portions of the wings, thus facilitating removal of the power units. The invention may be applied to airships. Tanks, arrangement of.-The petrol tanks may be situated in the casings 3.
