Abstract

Phenolic bodies are extracted from lignite, shale and tars by washing with a mixture of acetone and water. In treating the tars with acetone to separate paraffin wax and lubricating oils as described in the parent Specification, the acetone extract containing the oils is mixed with water or aqueous acetone to cause the separation of the oils, while the creosote remains in solution. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes also the treatment with aqueous acetone of peat, coal, producer and low-temperature tars, tar distillates and residues and mineral oil and distillates. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.ALSO:Phenolic bodies are extracted from lignite and shale tars by washing with a mixture of acetone and water.
