Abstract

Fuel oils containing asphaltum or free carbon particles, as for example Mexican oil or residual oil or tar from pressure stills, have blended therewith not more than 2 per cent of lime-resin soap to prevent settling out of these impurities. The oil may be centrifugal initially to reduce the percentage of impurities. A suitable soap in the form of a grease consists of 10 parts resin, 5 parts lime, 1.5 parts water, and 83.5 parts fuel oil. Specification 14520/13 is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes also the use, alone or in addition to the lime-resin soap, of 1-10 per cent of a peptizing agent, such as creosote, naphthalene, or tar derived from solvent naphtha. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
