542,996. Recovering waste lubricants. HOLFORD PROCESSES, Ltd., HOLFORD, H. J., and CHOWN, J. A. June 29, 1940, No. 11056 [Class 91] [Also in Group XII] Oil is produced and purified by a process which comprises mixing an oil, preferably a waste lubricating oil, with peat or other similar solid carbonaceous material containing volatile matter such as cannel coal, lignite, shale or wood, subjecting the mixture to distillation and condensing the distillate. in a preferred modification the solid carbonaceous material is dry peat, and the distillation takes place in a retort by the injection of superheated steam. There may also be admixed with the waste lubricating oil a proportion of unused oil. The residue in the retort is charcoal in a very hard form due to the deposition on the peat of the impurities in the oil. Specifications 431,397 and 465,142, [both in Group XII], are referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 137,045, 208,586, [both in Class 55 (ii)], 362,424 and 421,556.
