Abstract

155,562. O'Donnell, J. Dec. 16, 1919, [Convention date]. Road-traffic signals on vehicles; transparency and stencil luminous signals.- A stopping, turning, or like signal for road vehicles comprises a casing divided into compartments, each having a transparent cover bearing the required indication, and an electric lamp operated by a switch or press-button. The casing, Fig. 1, is in two parts forming back and front, the side portions overlapping at 9, Fig. 3, and secured by screws, so that the cover may be removed for access to the lamps 7. The cover has coloured glass plates 3, 4, 5, 6, the words "stop," &c., being ground on the glass, or formed by a stencil forming part of the cover. The back of the casing and the car wall 1 are clamped together between flanges on thimbles 13, 15, the thimble 15 screwing on to the thimble 13. The thimbles are locked by a set-screw, and the thimble 13 has lateral tongues engaging slots in the back 12 to prevent relative movement. The casing is further secured to the car by screws passed through eyes 20. The back of the car may be provided with a recess in which the signal device is housed. The leads 8 of the lamps extend to switches within reach of the driver.
