Road-vehicle signals; transparency, stencil, and illuminated signals.-An illuminated indicator on the rear of the vehicle for indicating the turning and stopping of the vehicle consists of a single casing divided by radial partitions h<2> into four compartments, each containing one or more lamps under the driver's control and closed at the frcnt by two contiguously-arranged glass plates o, n common to all the c.ompartments, and removably secured to the casing by a flanged ring s. In one arrangement, the outer glass plate o is of white frosted glass and the inner glass plate n is of ruby or other coloured glass blacked all over except the indications, so that the indication marks are only visible when illuminated. One of the compartments is provided with the "danger" spot, and its lower end u is left open so that the lamp in the compartment may illuminate the number-plate. The leads for the electric lamps pass from a boss m<3> through a rear compartment m<2> to the sockets r<2> carrying the lamps. The joints between the glass plates, partitions, &c. are preferably made of india-rubber to ensure the illuminated part is light-proof.
