Milling-cutters are formed by cutting a spiral groove 10 of suitable section in a plate 9. The cutting-edge may be backed off and may be divided into separate teeth by grooves, as shown in Fig. 3. Alternatively cutting-teeth may be formed by cutting two spiral grooves of opposite hand or by fitting segmental teeth into an undercut spiral slot. In a modification, the cutting- edge is formed on a strip wound round a spiral cam surface on the tool-body.
