Abstract
154,697. Associated Equipment Co., Edwards, C. K., and Coning, A. S. Aug. 30, 1919. Torque-rods.-A torque member 13 for a motorvehicle comprises a deep and thin spring blade which resists bending in the plane of its surface, but which twists and also bends laterally to conform with the movements of the rear axle when affected by irregularities in the road surface. The member is bolted rigidly to the differential gear casing 12 at the rear end and has a suitable connexion with the chassis at the front end, which advantageously may be of the construction illustrated, in which a pin 21 on the member slides in a ball 16 mounted in a socket formed in a bracket depending from a transverse frame member 11. A spring 25 maintains a dust-excluding cap 23 in contact with the bracket. In a modified construction the torque member is formed with rigid ends having the spring blade mounted intermediately.
