Abstract

Couplings and connectors. - Two sets of electrical conductors, for example those from a piece of electrical apparatus (such as an intercommunicating telephone) and the wires of a multi-core cable, are connected together by a pair of insulating-strips each. carrying a set of correspondingly spaced terminals, one set comprising spring-pressed plungers. Clamping means secure the contacts in connexion, and means are provided to hold the contacts in register. Fig. 6 shows a transverse section of such a pair of strips. The lower one carries spring-pressed contactstuds 11, each in connexion with a plate 9 to which a wire from the instrument is soldered after traversing a hole 15. The upper one carries terminals 3, the lower ends of which are adapted to contact with the studs 11 and which carry terminal screws 5 and washers. The contact members have knurled exterior parts so that when driven into holes in their supports they are prevented from turning subsequently. Registering pins 16 in the under strip engage holes in the upper strip, and the clamping means shown are screwed studs carrying wing nuts.
