Abstract

1,169,509. Two-part couplings. WONG CHOW SAU FONG. 20 June, 1968, No. 29526/68. Heading H2E. An extension lead socket provides output contacts for engagement with both two- and three-pin plugs. An insulating base member 1, which may be moulded in a synthetic plastics material, is formed with recesses 10, 11, 12 in which are located binding posts 15, 19, 20, each provided with a bore 17 and transverse screw 18 for connecting the bared ends of a three-core input lead, the lead being clamped by a fibre strip 6 screwed to the base. Output contact sockets 27, 30 for mating with two two-pin plugs are located in further recesses 13, 14, which are shallower than recesses 11, 12, and are connected by extension strips 24, 26 to the binding posts 19, 20. Integral with the extension strips 24, 26 are contact sockets 23, 25 which, together with a further contact 21 connected to binding post 15, receive the round pins of a mating three-pin plug. The metal strip 24 passes beneath contact 30 without engagement. The base 1 of the socket is closed by a cap member, held in place by two screws (Fig. 1, not shown), which is formed with orifices corresponding to the contact sockets carried by the base 1 and an orifice adjacent the clamping strip 6 for the input lead. The orifices provided for the two-pin connection are shaped to allow both round and flat pins to be inserted.
