Abstract

154,350. Faire, J. H. C. Sept. 2, 1919. Controlling variable-speed gearing. - An operating-lever is locked by engagement with two striking-forks. These forks 1, 2 have bosses 6, 7 which slide on guide-rods 3, 4. The forks 1, 2 are locked in neutral position by a pivoted locking-fork 8, which has arms engaging transverse slots 13, 16 in the bosses. In the neutral position, the enlarged end 10 of the operating-lever 11 resides in the alined slots 13, 16. To obtain the required speed ratio, the lever 11 is moved, say, downwards of Fig. 4, so as to clear the boss 6 and at the same time to move the fork 8 clear of the boss 7. It is then moved to left or right carrying with it the boss 7 and fork 2. It is finally allowed to spring into locking engagement with a recess 12 or with a recess 14 in the boss 6. A recess 15 for a like purpose is provided in the boss 7.
