Abstract
153,872. Gessner, E., [Firm of]. Nov. 12, 1919, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Act]. Pressing; softening.-Paper textiles and similar fabrics are scraped or scratched so as to become softened and compacted by passing them between pairs of " loaded " rollers s, t, Fig. 1, provided with card clothing having inclined and oppositelydirected wires, as shown. The upper rollers s may be arranged in pairs and be pulled down on to the lower rollers t by springs. The rollers t may be driven positively by a belt and may drive the fabric w forwards, the rollers s being rotated frictionally by the fabric. In a modification, the positively-driven rollers are arranged alternately above and below the frictionally-driven rollers. In another modification, wherein the rollers s, t, Fig. 3, are arranged in a circular path, guiderollers l for the fabric are used, and a rotary sweeper b may also be employed. Both series of rollers may be driven positively and at different speeds. The rollers s, Fig. 4, may be slidably mounted and be acted upon by adjustable springs f abutting against collars f<1> on stems e. On releasing a locking-member c, a crank-handle k may be operated tc turn a cam-arm d acting on a collar e<1> on the stem e, whereby the rollers s can be raised.
