Abstract

1537365 Preparation of monoazo dyestuff HOECHST AG 11 March 1976 [11 March 1975 12 Feb 1976] 09877/76 Heading C4P The monoazo dyestuff C.I. Acid Red 42 which, in the form of its sodium salt, has the Formula (I) is prepared in the form of its free acid and having an electrolyte content of less than 15% by weight, by diazotizing 2-amino-diphenylsulphone, in the form of a suspension or solution in an aqueous mineral acid, and coupling the product with 2- amino - 8 - naphthol - 6 - sulphonic acid at from 0‹ to 30‹ C. and at a pH of from 0À5 to 3À5 (the pH being adjusted if necessary by the addition of an acid-binding alkali metal or alkaline earth metal salt of an inorganic acid or of a saturated C 1 to C 3 aliphatic carboxylic acid) heating the resulting dyestuff suspension to from 40‹ to 130‹ C. and in a closed vessel when heating to above 100‹ C., and isolating the dyestuff from the suspension at from 30‹ to 100‹ C., and optionally washing the resulting dyestuff with a 1À5 to 10% by weight aqueous solution of an alkali metal salt of a strong inorganic acid. The dyestuff prepared by the above process gives bluish red shade to wool and synthetic polyamide fibres.
