Abstract

1490139 Water-soluble monoazo dyestuffs BAYER AG 17 Oct 1975 [2 Jan 1975] 42634/75 Heading C4P Novel water-soluble azo dyes have the formula where R 2 is H or alkyl and each R 4 is H, Cl or C 1-6 alkyl and each m is 1 or 2. The dyes are produced by diazotization and coupling; if necessary the product is converted to the free acid by adding mineral acid with heating if required followed by isolation. An aqueous solution or dispersion of the sulphonic acid is then adjusted to a pH above 4 by adding an alkaline potassium compound and then dried; alternatively the isolated free sulphonic acid is dried, mixed with an alkaline potassium compound and then dissolved in water. The dyes, which are preferably spray-dried, are used to colour natural and synthetic fibre materials, expecially polyamides.
