Abstract
1536777 Component assemblies FERRANTI Ltd 21 July 1977 [22 July 1976] 30532/76 Heading H1R An electrical component assembly including a cathode ray tube (not shown) whose neck 11 has four connection pins 12 of the gun assembly with external leads 10 soldered thereto. The pins and the solder junctions are embedded in a protective potting compound 14, 14<SP>1</SP> curable in situ at low temperature. Since the compound has a low tear strength it is vulnerable to damage from lead flexing, so that the leads are retained by a preformed integral grooved cylindrical guide 15 of a high tear strength through which the leads extend and are fixed. Base 16 of the guide is embedded in the potting compound and keyed in by the groove. In assembly the CRT neck is jig mounted with the leads extending, the guide is threaded on the leads and secured to a second jig; and the potting compound is applied and thermally cured in situ. The potting compound may be of low curing temperature silicone rubber, and the guide of high curing temperature silicone rubber. The guide may have a common bore for the leads, be wholly embedded in the potting compound, or adhesively adherent thereto. It may be separately cured on the leads. Other forms of component assembly may be similarly enclosed.
