Abstract
1536405 Touch responsive switching systems TEXAS INSTRUMENTS Ltd 18 Dec 1975 51854/75 Heading G1N [Also in Division H2] A switching system for controlling the current flowing in a load 1 from an A.C. source comprises a gated semi-conductor switch e.g. a triac 4 connected in series with the load, gating signals for the triac being developed by a control circuit which includes a plurality of touch plates 33. Pulses are developed in a transformer 10 whenever the A.C. source voltage passes through zero such pulses being transmitted to a further transformer 9 to gate the triac 4 whenever a transistor 22 is conductive. Assuming the transistor 22 to be non-conductive and a transistor 27 in a bi-stable flip-flop conductive the load 1 will be de-energized. A touch on one of the plates 33 will cause a field effect transistor 28 is momentarily switched off thus causing a transistor 29 to be switched on whereby a negative going pulse to be generated which is applied to the flip-flop causing it to change state. Transistor 27 thus becomes non-conductive, transistor 22 becomes conductive to gate the triac 4 and the load is energized. A further touch on one of the plates 33 acts in a similar manner to again change the state of the flip-flop so de-energizing the load. Leakage injection for the touch plates 33 is provided by way of a resistor 21 which is made adjustable to suit the length of the inter-connecting leads for the touch plate system.
