Abstract
153,572. Sainturat, M. H. C. E. Oct. 29, 1919, [Convention date]. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Laminar springs; dash-pots.-A spring suspension for motor-vehicles comprises a main bearing spring of constant flexibility in series with a secondary spring the flexibility of which diminishes gradually when the axle rises and rapidly when the axle descends. In the arrangement shown, the main spring c is secured to a transverse shaft f and is connected to the axle a by a link b, the master leaf being extended and connected to the chassis e by a link d. The shaft f carries two dissymmetrically curved cams h bearing on each side of a bundle of leaf springs g mounted in a casing secured to the chassis, the shape of the cams being such as to produce the variable flexibility described above. Downward returning movement of the axle is further retarded by a dash-pot l, the retardation being increased after the axle has passed its normal position by a fixed needle o which partially closes the orifice n in the piston k. The variable flexibility devices on both sides of the vehicle are mounted on the shaft f. In a modification, a main spring secured to the axle is connected at one end to the chassis and at the other end to a leverarm on the shaft f.
