Abstract
1535216 Lamp testing SOUND DIFFUSION (Mfg) Ltd 3 Dec 1975 49591/75 Heading G1U [Also in Division H2] An emergency lighting assembly comprises a translucent housing of non-magnetic material containing an emergency lamp LP1, a storage battery charged by a mains supply, a light emitting diode LP2 for indicating normal operating conditions, and a test device including a normally closed reed switch RS-1 which is opened by placing a magnet on the housing thereby disconnecting the mains supply to enable the effectiveness of the lamp to be checked. When the mains supply is present, the battery is charged via a transformer T1 and diodes D1, D3. Transistors Q1, Q2 are maintained non-conductive so that the lamp LP1 is off but the light emitting diode is illuminated. If the mains fails, the transistors conduct and the lamp LP1 is illuminated by the battery, the light emitting diode being extinguished. To test the lamp LP1, a magnet is placed adjacent the reed switch RS-1 which opens to disconnect the mains supply and connect the lamp LP1 to the battery. The circuit may be constructed so that the lamp LP1 is also illuminated when the mains supply is present.
