Gratings for preventing glare.-A glare-preventing device for automobile and like lamps comprises thin sheet-metal ribbon or slats located in front of or behind the front glass and arranged edgeways to the reflector axis as a continuous spiral or as concentric rings with their upper aspect surfaces dulled or darkened and with their lower and, in some cases, lateral aspect surfaces polished so as to function as reflectors. In one form, a spirally wound band 16 is mounted on four radially-disposed rods 17, notched bars, or slats connecting a carrier ring 13 with a central hub ring 18, and the adjacent convolutions of the band may be spaced apart by means of thimbles on the rods 17. The ring 13 together with packing 15 is clamped between the lantern front and the flanged ring of the reflector 11.
