Abstract

1534796 Coaxial cable POST OFFICE 9 March 1977 [9 March 1976 15 April 1976] 09352/76 and 15486/76 Heading H1A In a coaxial cable with an outer conductor wrapped around a dielectric and having overlapped adjacent sections, a soft seal is provided between the overlapping sections. The sealant must yield at the ambient working pressure but resist ambient manufacturing temperatures. It is exemplified by gelled medium M.W. polyisobutylene with low M.W. polyethylene, petroleum jelly or a soft wax mixed with a hydrocarbon polymer. Alternatively a coating of In, Pb or Bi or a gasket of Pb/Sn solder can be used in the overlap. The sealant may be provided on a soft thick plastics tape (18) which is located between the overlapping portions (Fig. 4, not shown) and the overlap covered on the outside with a Cu or Al foil (24).
